I think here are some important informations are missing: Which version of fink are you running or you are trying to install? Which version of Mac OS X are you running? Panther? Jaguar? Which X-Server is installed? Apple's X11 or a fink version of XDarwin and if so which or did you get the XDarwin binaries from somewhere else? What you can also try is to see if the points 9.11 to 9.13 out of the faq <http://fink.sourceforge.net/faq/index.php?phpLang=en> help you out. They are for panther and X11 but it should be similiar to your situation where a x is in the way.
