Do I need to restore uname, how would I do that?

Check and see if you have /usr/bin/uname on your system, then start a terminal window--so your shell points to /usr/bin/uname. If /usr/bin/uname is missing, then you need to reinstall the Essentials package from OSX.

What happened to darwin-powerpc? ... help :)
You have a broken "uname" executable somewhere on your PATH, probably in /usr/local/bin. Trash it.
