I don't do the documentation, I'm just a fink user. But one of the documentation guys follows the fink-beginners list, so he should see your message. Looking at it with beginner's eyes, I think you have a good point about the confusing references to "current" vs "unstable". Maybe the terminology needs to be reviewed. Maybe we need a very prominent document titled "How to install the latest packages".
Were you able to get the latest svn installed? If not, post again and someone will help you.

So, to answer your question about how to improve the documentation or website, try to make it clear what the different distribution packages mean. To those not particularly familiar with your project, 'current' and 'unstable' are not necessarily synonymous. Perhaps re-label 'current-10.3' to 'unstable-10.3', or putting a star with a footnote, or parenthetically stating (Unstable) out to the right of the packages listing.

If you did, and couldn't get it to work, post a message on the list saying exactly what you did, and what happened. Then someone can give you detailed help.
If you couldn't find that FAQ entry, perhaps you could suggest how the web site or other documentation could be improved to make it easier to use.
