ok-
i tried to to sudo fink selfupdate, and it give the
same .cvspass file error except with my home directory
as the path, so i guess that wasnt the problem.
when i use apt-get like suggested, here is what
happens:
63:/sw/bin kingnoc$ sudo ./apt-get dist-upgrade

not sure whats going on there either... is it possible
that all of these problems were from upgrading to
10.3? anyhow, maybe i should just remove fink and the
X11 directory and start anew.
my question now is, what is the proper way to remove
these things? i had installed X11 via the installer
file provided by Apple. i also have OSXPM, which
lists both fink and X11 .pkg files that can be
reomved... or i could just rm -rf the files too. what is the proper way to get rid of these things
cleanly? i dont want to leave traces of the programs
all over the system. thanks for your help so far, i
feel like there is yet hope!
As long as you're using the Panther version of Apple's X11, you don't need to remove it--Fink will detect that it exists.
To remove Fink the official method is just "rm -rf /sw"--Fink tries not to leave bits of itself around elsewhere.
