I did: "rm -rf ~/.kderc ~/.kde" but I must have added a space after "rm -rf ~/". I know that when I checked my home directory I had lost all of my hidden files and had lost up to "c" alphabetically also. I was able to restore the files you saw from a dated backup (which maybe explains why it's not cooperating with my installed packages which were updated since the backup). I don't know where this might help but....
