Last time I upgraded Gimp, I ran into a similar problem, but it was related
to fontconfig instead of freetype. Martin Costabel proposed a solution in
his message posted Saturday, September 11, 2004 4:35 PM which included
instructions for installing and xorg.

Will a similar solution work now? If so, is it easier to install xorg over
Xfree86 than it was then?

The problem is that when Gimp 2.2 launches, it complains that the version of
FreeType installed must be at least 2.1.7 but installed version (latest
known to Fink) appears to be 2.1.4.

I tried installing freetype219, but that didn't seem to make a difference.

Is there a way to make gimp use freetype219 instead of freetype2?

Can freetype219 be somehow substituted for freetype2?

Otool displays this message about libfreetype for Gimp 2.2:

(compatibility version 6.3.0, current version 6.3.0)

Why isn't a higher version of freetype listed by Fink as a requirement for
Gimp 2.2?

Thanks.
