Well it seemed like a good idea. 
After the selfupdate-rsync completed without error messages
I did update-all which was suggested when selfupdate-rsync completed.

This was the result:

fink needs help picking an alternative to satisfy a virtual

I googled the above error and got references to past sourceforge-fink
lists. I didn't fully understand the replies.

I'm wondering if it would be easier to use garnome to install gnome?
