However, it *did* work out, when I removed db43 in favour of db3. Until the next time I ran into this problem, which was then again solved by replacing db43 with db 3 and so on. It happened at least thrice.
So, the reason why I wrote wasn't that I couldn't install; I could. I just guessed these conflicting dependencies won't be healthy for my /sw-system in the loing run. Not to mention that such trouble might discourage new users of Fink and therefore - if, that is, they are avoidable at all - perhaps might be taken care of. Not by me, though, since I'm not a programmer.

These are build-time rather than run-time conflicts, so they don't matter when you actually run the programs.
