I have downloaded and installed Fink .6.4 and the updated Fink Commander. When I click to start Fink Commander, it tries to start but instantly quits, leaving an error message: "Fink Commander has unexpectedly quit."

For this, you might want to write to the finkcommander mailing lists (address at finkcommander.sf.net). I suspect that FinkCommander-0.5.4, if this is what you installed, was never tested on Mac OS X 10.2 and does perhaps not run.

I tried deleting all Fink files to start over, but ran into a "root ownership" problem, so it wouldn't let me. There was no option to input my system password, so I'm stuck there.

What "root ownership problem"?
