I became a Mac user yesterday, and so really feel like a beginner.
I've managed to install Fink and get some packages (like make and
emacs-nox11) installed. However, I really want the X version of
Emacs, but have been completely unable to install it. The problem
seems to be that Fink is convinced I don't have X11 installed.
I'm using 10.4.3, though, which comes with X11 preinstalled. I've
also tried to install the Apple X11 version, but was told it was
already there, so I couldn't install it. In other words, it seems
pretty clear that I've got what I need.
fink-virtual-pkgs tells me I've got macosx installed, but this
apparently does not provide the "x11" symbol. dselect has never heard
of the system-xfree86 package which the docs say I should have. The
docs also talk about an "X11 User" package, but what the name of that
package might be I have no idea. dselect has no packages with "x11"
in their names at all.
Does anyone have any idea what to do? I've tried forcing the install,
I've tried Googling, and I've tried lots of silly things, but nothing
seems to be able to convince fink that I've got X11 installed, or
even that it can install the normal Emacs version.
Help would be much appreciated.
