It's known that xorg has some libraries with newer libversions than either XFree86 or Apple's X11. Our website docs _do_ mention that you can't go to any earlier X11 flavor without rebuilding stuff. As a near-term option it's probably worth also amending the installation message for xorg to mention breakage when trying XFree86 as well as Apple's X11. -- Alexander K.
