Hi,
I just bought a Mac ProBook (Mac OS X version 10.4.10, 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2
Duo). I believe that I have the Darwin 8.10 version (can't figure out what the
unix command is to confirm that).
I've downloaded the Fink binary for intel processor version
(Fink-0.8.1-Intel-Installer.dmg from
http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/fink/Fink-0.8.1-Intel-Installer.dmg?download).
Prior to running the Fink installation, I did install Xcode developer's tool
(xcode_8m2540a_developerdvd*.dmg from the http://adcdownload.apple.com) ... I'm
not sure which version it is (2.4 or 2.5). The creation date of the binary is
Sept 5 and the Xcode 2.5 is dated Oct 5. So my guess is it's 2.4 (since I
downloaded this before Oct 30). Then I installed the Apple's X11 (version
1.1.3 - XFree86 4.4.0) and X11 SDK from the Mac OS X install disks that came
with the computer. From what I can see the X11 seems to work fine. Then I
installed the fink using the dmg I downloaded. That was 15 hours ago and the
installer is still running. The progress bar stopped moving at the 2/3 of the
way and I looked at the installation log and there's no errors:

I know that the installation doc did note this among the "requirements" for
First Time Installation (which in this case it is):

Patience.
Compiling several big packages takes time.
I'm talking hours or even days here.

But the impression I got that this was the case if one decided to install it
using source code and not the binary since the source code would require
compilation. But the binary already has the results of that compilation...am I
correct in that? Is it normal that this installation is taking forever? How
long should I expect the installation to take if I used the binary download?
I'm just wondering if the installation is going OK and as expected.

Thanks,
Jade
