I have tried your suggestions. I opened the temporary script where the error
comes from, and remove the -q option, and I have done this on many
occasions, and re-run. once I tried to reinstall, another temporary script
comes up with the same segmentation fault error.

I have even removed octave and rebuilt octave, still no progress.
