Hi Folks, From a bit of poking around, I found that the problem was with the files in the /sw/share/denyhosts-py25/data directory. Apparently, at a certain size threshold -- around 300K -- they no longer work well with denyhosts. For a temporary fix, I refreshed the data directory. Specifically, I did the following:
cd /sw/share/denyhosts-py25 mv data data_old and then restarted the daemon (sudo denyhosts-py25.py -c /sw/etc/ denyhosts-py25/denyhosts.cfg -- daemon). This just renames the old data directory, and the daemon then rebuilds a fresh directory. It's working fine now, once again logging brute force ssh attempts to my hosts.deny file. Also, generating a new data directory had no affect on my existing hosts.deny file -- whew. I don't know why there is a size limit on files within the /sw/share/ denyhosts-py25/data directory. Of course, maybe one of my files got corrupted and it really isn't a size issue. I scanned the /sw/etc/ denyhosts-py25/denyhosts.cfg to see if there are any file size settings, but didn't see anything obvious (at least to my untrained eyes). So, until this is addressed in a more general fashion, one should periodically check that the daemon is running and logging correctly. If not, renewing the data directory might be an easy fix. glenn On Jul 9, 2009, at 9:09 PM, Glenn Millhauser wrote: > Hi All, > I've been using denyhosts-py25 for over a year now with great > success.
