Hi Martin,
Thank you! I am very new on the Mac but am familiar with Unix. If I were to
install the "scribus" stable version, 1.3.3.13, is it pretty straight forward
just installing the corresponding dmg file or do I need to use fink to install?

I haven't yet managed to build qt3mac on 10.6. I even doubt whether it
will be possible at all. Qt3-mac uses Carbon stuff that was deprecated
on 10.5 and does no longer exist in 10.6.
On Snow Leopard, you have the choice between the packages "scribus"
(which is the "stable" version 1.3.3.13 and uses X11), "scribus135"
(development version, X11), and "scribus135-aqua" (dev version, aqua
graphics).
