apt-get isn't really that useful on 10.6 and later, as there are no

You probably don't have any package descriptions.  Run "fink
selfupdate-rsync" or "fink selfupdate-cvs" to set your Fink up to
download and update package descriptions from rsync or cvs, respectively.
