Hi Everyone, I'm very new to Fink, so pardon me if this is a dumb question...
I'm currently trying to use fink to install BioPerl per the instructions provided on the BioPerl website, which seem pretty straightforward: http://www.bioperl.org/wiki/Installing_BioPerl_on_Mac_OSX I've gotten fink installed without any issues. However, I don't seem to be able to install any of the three bioperl packages described in the fink package database: Name Latest Version Description bioperl-pm5100 1.6.901-2 Perl module for molecular biology bioperl-pm586 1.6.901-2 Perl module for molecular biology bioperl-pm588 1.6.901-2 Perl module for molecular biology For example, if I attempt to run the command "fink install bioperl-pm586", I get the following message: "Failed: no package found for specification 'bioperl-pm586'!". I get the same error for the other two packages as well. Running the "fink list" command produces a list of packages that does not include any of the three listed above: "... bioinfo-oct363 0.1.2-3 Bioinformatics manipulation for Octave biopython-py26 1.59-1 Python tools for computational biology ..." At first, I thought the problem might be that these packages are kept in the unstable tree, but running 'fink configure' seems to suggest that fink no longer maintains an unstable tree since Mac OS X 10.7: "Note: As of the OS X 10.7 distribution, fink no longer has a separate "unstable" tree. All development and releases happen in the "stable" tree, the only public tree that exists." So, at this point, I'm stuck. I can't figure out why these packages aren't showing up in the output from 'fink list'. Any thoughts?
