Thanks again Alex,

I chose the Japanese mirror and it seems to have helped, there was much updating etc., and libxslt was updated and installed, I think. Now, though, I’ve come up against a situation where Fink hangs at a point and I can’t see how to overcome it. Just restarting FinkCommander interrupts the process and it just hangs again at the same point. I let it ‘run’ and it sat like that for at least an hour?? :-(

I’m not sure how to get an output log from this one so I hope a screenshot will suffice, I’ll attach it below, thanks,

Ray

Thanks Alex,

I appreciate the response. I just realised that because I hadn’t sent
this using my SF email, and I hadn’t included my user ID number
(4568659) that my message may get held up in the system, but I’m glad
that I’ve have a response already, thanks again.

I’ve now got to remember how to set up my email to use my SF email but
I’m sure I’ll work that out eventually.

You mentioned this below,

To get around this issue you can (s)witch your rsync mirror in fink.conf
to one of the two that updates autonomously:

rsync://ber.de.eu.finkmirrors.net/finkinfo/
rsync://hnd.jp.asi.finkmirrors.net/finkinfo/

how do I go about doing that?? I went through my config but couldn’t see
where to change that mirror. I’m using FinkCommander if that helps, but
I can use the CLI too. Or is it easier to use this, or use "fink
selfupdate-cvs" to switch update methods?? Can I just edit the fink.conf
in something like TextWrangler? If so, which line??

Thanks heaps for your help,

Ray

Yeah, this isn't something that can be done in FinkCommander, apart from using selfupdate-cvs to switch methods.  Using "fink configure" from the CLI will work, but it's not particularly fine-grained--you'd wind up picking Europe or Asia for all of your mirrors first.  Editing /sw/etc/fink.conf in TextWrangler works fine; the field you would want to change is Mirror-rsync .
