(reply to the list, please, since this isn't my package and I don't actually know much about it) If you've got multiple postgresql versions installed, what's going on might be that your pgsql.sh is set for postgresql-9.3 and so you've started that daemon, and so you won't be able to connect to the non-running server for postgresql-9.2.
