I was looking at teh above URL and I was thinking to myself if it is not useful for Fink? I know there are certain situations when we exactly know a value, for example XX packages need updating.

Would it not be convenient to see a little progress bar in a certain verbosity level when you run update-all? Knowing how many packages need to be updated should even allow us to use the ETA option. Another neat module is
