Hi,

Considering that OSX.3 have a recent autoconf, why not make a virtual
package for it as well ?
Version is : autoconf (GNU Autoconf) 2.57

I don't get what the advantage should be. Yes right now it is current. And with the next autoconf release, it will be outdated again. As a rule of the thumb, 3rd party packages are updated much more frequently than Apple updates them in the OS. Usually they only update 3rd party package with major OS releases, like 10.2, 10.3, or in case of real important security fixes.

So the only thing to be gained by this would be that for the very few packages which depend on autoconf, you safe the installation of one package. Hm

Just an idea I got while installing automake 1.7 and after noticing there
was a virtual package for libtool.

There is a virtual package for libtool? Interesting I see nothing like that in the package manager source nor in the package database... I must admit I'd be a bit upset if there were, it would be quite pointless. if there really is such a thing and I am just overlooking it, I'd be happy if somebody could a) point me at the place it is defined and b) at the email thread / IRC discussion where it was agreed to put it in, so that I may understand the reasons :-)

BTW, same ida for automake - version is : automake (GNU automake) 1.6.3

Same reply as for autoconf :-)

Cheers,

Max
