- have a dummy %N package and a %N-shlibs splitoff that contain exactly the same things as the current versions
- have a new %N-dev splitoff containing all the things that are currently thrown away. These things are installed into %p/lib/freetype2. In particular, there is a freetype-config script in %p/lib/freetype2/bin that knows about this configuration.
Thus, for packages that do not BuildDepend explicitly on freetype2-dev, no change from the current situation should be visible. Packages wanting to use the new freetype2-dev have to tell their configure script about %p/lib/freetype2/freetype-config.
I also made a scribus package that works with this new freetype2-dev. It was not very easy to convince configure not to find the freetype-config in /usr/X11R6/bin. There are also still warnings about doubly-defined symbols, because the libfreetype.dylib in /usr/X11R6/lib is still seen, although not really used. In any case, the resulting scribus binary seems to work correctly.
All this is in my experimental directory, so you can inspect and comment before I release all this into the wild.
Also in my experimental directory are Panther-adapted versions of msttcorefonts and of applesystemfonts which I would like to put into 10.3/unstable. They are working for scribus.
