Well one problem is that there is no widely accepted standard as far as the ruby installer is concerned... for example there is extconf.rb, install.rb (sometimes ad hoc versions)... also RubyGems (http://rubygems.rubyforge.org) which will probably become the standard but it is not official yet.
So at the moment what I'd like to see in the documentation is: which way works with the field, what does it put as default value for CompileScript, is there versioning options like Type:perl ?
