Dave,
I'm aware of the comparison chart and your BuildDepends work. (In fact I have some scripts in experimental that Blair Zajac and I have been using to find BuildDepends problems in the course of regular fink usage and building out own packages; I encourage other devels to try them.) I try to be conscious of the possibility of someone else changing my packages--some of my packages on the chart have been marked for a while, and I've been using CVS copies of .info files for the past several months. However, I'm sure you can understand that when my packages--my responsibilities--change without my knowledge, it complicates things.
It would be perfectly satisfactory if our commit scripts contacted the maintainer. Great idea.
