This asks for filing a bug against gcc_select, I think. A script of this importance shouldn't just stupidly use "rm" and "cp" etc without knowing what they are. It really should set its own PATH before doing anything else.

This applies to many more scripts on the system than just gcc_select, and I don't believe that any of them set their own PATH. gcc_select isn't particularly vital or dangerous -- if it gets things wrong, worst case you need to reinstall XCode.
