Hmmm. Is -fPIC and -fno-common equivalent? I specifically recall that
I had to add -fno-common to the compilation of the static lib liblammpio.a
to eliminate the common symbols in it and thus eliminate the need for
the -W1,-single-module hack to build gromacs-mpi's shared libs. I would
guess not from the result.
