I assume there is nothing wrong with compiling neon24 with gcc 4.0.1,

user-edited or patched, to allow building within Fink's dependency
system (need neon24 to build svn-client-ssl).

Unfortunately I have not really an idea about how to change that package. Also, I don't have time to spend on fink right now. So I am ccing this message to fink-devel. Maybe somebody can help there.

This is likely to be a manifestation of a problem which has been cropping up a lot recently (AKH, do we need a new FAQ entry)?

In brief, the story is this. For reasons we don't understand, sometimes the XCode 2.1 or 2.2 installations install gcc 4.0.1 incorrectly. This incorrect gcc 4.0.1 installation causes fink to exit with an error message. Unfortunately, fink's error message appears to blame the package which was being compiled (and suggests reporting to list or emailing the maintainer). As a consequence, maintainers get confusing emails about their packages not being able to be compiled under gcc 4.0.1.

I've spent the last month testing packages under XCode 2.2/ gcc 4.0.1, and I'll shortly announce the results on the web page: essentially every package other than openoffice.org can deal with XCode 2.2/ gcc 4.0.1 just as well as with previous XCode versions. (There are still 100 or so that don't compile under 10.4, but the problems are not caused by the XCode upgrade.) So this is definitely not the source of the current problem.

When this problem of "missing" gcc 4.0.1 came up earlier (perhaps on other lists), solutions were proposed, but I can't put my hands on the solution right now. Perhaps just reinstalling XCode?
