Dear Fink developers,

As many of you are aware, the 10.4 tree is under construction and will be made available within a week or so. Currently, if you bootstrap fink from either CVS HEAD or branch_0_24, the *default* is to bootstrap you into the new tree. You can affect this behavior by setting an environment variable FINK_NOTRANS during bootstrap: if FINK_NOTRANS is set to be true, the you get the new (non- transitional) 10.4 tree; if FINK_NOTRANS is set to be false, you get the old 10.4-transitional tree.

At present, once your tree has been set at bootstrap time, it is not changed by subsequent updates.

So, unless you want to play with the new tree, if you have occasion to bootstrap fink from HEAD or branch_0_24, you should set FINK_NOTRANS to be false.
