Unfortunately, that's the policy: no invariant components for a language-versioned package, since language-versioning is intended to allow multiple versions of the same package for different flavors of the language to coexist rather than to conflict amongst themselves. Usually this sort of thing is handled with update-alternatives amongst the multiple versions, cf. ipython-py. If you really don't want to mess with that, then you're free to lock onto one python flavor, cf. meld. -- Alexander K.
