i.e., in fact (on 10.4), linking to 0.9.7l libs using 0.9.7i headers  
(cf {,/usr/bin/}openssl version)

Given the large output of  a "diff /{sw,usr}/include/openssl",
I'm not sure how many maintainers of such packages can
vouch for their correctness and safety  ...
