But this doesn't explain the percent expansion that seems to happen...
You don't have any special settings , as for AutoIndex, I guess ?
(And anyway  I don't have the impression those matter a lot anymore ..)

What happens if (after "fink index -f" to be sure),
you do a "fink dumpinfo -finfofile -fpackage -fpatchscript -pni -pa"  
for the file ?
And are the cited infofile and patchfile the ones you want (and  
edited, and showed..)?
