Good one. The Debian project certainly doesn't build gettext along with dpkg - even more weird: it doesn't Depend on gettext, it doesn't Build-Depend on gettext, and the resulting binary does not dynamically link against gettext. Maybe this changed in a later version of `dpkg` (though I doubt that)... I'll e-mail the dpkg maintainers to ask them what's going on. Thanks for the hint. Sjors
