yes, I had alpine 2.0-1 build, installed and it was using the certs in the 
/System/Library/OpenSSL/ -location

[could it be, that some messages from threads regarding pine are mistaken 
to refer to _al_pine?]

that makes the entire situation pretty odd.

my patch would be to go back to alpine-2.0-1 [if i wouldn't care for the 
rest of the world]. But if 2.0-1 doesn't build on your machine, then 'my 
solution' wouldn't be of much value to you ;)
