   This is forking the discussion slightly, but I recall you had problems 
running the
blt tests from within Pmw under x86_64 fink. I just noticed this thread...

You might try installing custom tcltk 8.5 packages with...

--disable-xft

added to the ConfigureParams. Perhaps that will help. Unfortunately as you can
see from that thread, the blt author is not very big on communicating 
downstream.
