I'd say don't call the new-sonamed package ppl0.11, (as per the Conflicts: ppl0.11, Replaces: ppl0.11) but rather ppl9. We like the number to go along with the libversion rather than upstream's arbitrary version number--if you have multiple libraries in a -shlibs call one the "primary" one.
