-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 We have separate HDF5 and HDF5-18 packages because the latter introduced an incompatible API to the former. I used the "-18" suffix to indicate this. Unfortunately, upstream has made a soname update to some of the libraries in the 1.8.x branch.
Currently we generate: /sw/lib/hdf5-18/lib/libhdf5.6.dylib /sw/lib/hdf5-18/lib/libhdf5_cpp.0.dylib /sw/lib/hdf5-18/lib/libhdf5_hl.0.dylib /sw/lib/hdf5-18/lib/libhdf5_hl_cpp.0.dylib in hdf5-18-1.8.2 However, in hdf5-18-1.8.5-patch1 (latest upstream), what would be produced is: /sw/lib/hdf5-18/lib/libhdf5.6.dylib /sw/lib/hdf5-18/lib/libhdf5_cpp.6.dylib /sw/lib/hdf5-18/lib/libhdf5_hl.6.dylib /sw/lib/hdf5-18/lib/libhdf5_hl_cpp.6.dylib Also of note is that in the hdf5 package (older API) the library content is /sw/lib/libhdf5.0.dylib /sw/lib/libhdf5_hl.0.dylib The good news is that the new upstream hdf5-1.8.5 libraries no longer have a file overlapping with one from hdf5-1.6.x, and so the private directory can be dispensed with. The bad news is that, by policy, we'll presumably want a new package name in hdf5-18 due to the soname change. Any thoughts on a name here? I was thinking possibly to call the library and developer portions "hdf5.6*" and keep the executable as "hdf5-18-bin", but that's kind of ugly. Another option might be "hdf5-18-6", which is also ugly.
