Fang, This is http://gcc.gnu.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=45248. Currently MacPorts is taking the approach in their gcc45 package of building on darwin 8 with --with-dwarf2 (http://trac.macports.org/browser/trunk/dports/lang/gcc45/Portfile). However Mike Stump rejected this change for upstream... http://gcc.gnu.org/ml/gcc-patches/2010-09/msg00719.html although Iain Sandoe was of a different opinion... http://gcc.gnu.org/ml/gcc-patches/2010-09/msg00723.html Basically darwin8 is between a rock and a hard place. There are bootstrap issues under stabs and the dwarf2 support in darwin8's Xcode is experimental. Also since there are no testers upstream for darwin8, the regression state of the resulting compiler is questionable. Also if you read through the old thread in fink-devel for gcc 4.5.1, Jack Fink claimed that dwarf2 was giving him problems on i386... http://www.mail-archive.com/fink-devel@lists.sourceforge.net/msg20513.html to which I replied... http://www.mail-archive.com/fink-devel@lists.sourceforge.net/msg20515.html Since David Morrison suggested we just nix further 10.4 packages... http://www.mail-archive.com/fink-devel@lists.sourceforge.net/msg20516.html I was leaning in that direction. Also since the security patch situation with darwin8 is dicey, it seems unwise to encourage folks to keep running Tiger.
