I believe the error is due to
> /Users/smaret/Library/texmf/web2c/fmtutil.cnf
which may be outdated.
If you think that file is not needed, please do:
$ mv /Users/smaret/Library/texmf/web2c/fmtutil.cnf{,.old}
then re-run "fink reinstall texlive-base".
