It's been a while and unfortunately I remember very little of the details.

This is what I remember and what I can glean from my sparse CVS logs on
the subject:

I locally bumped libgettext8-shlibs to 0.18 back in Feb 2011 (according
to my experimental), but I then removed it 5 months later.

As I recall, one package (linuxdcpp?) ended up miscompiling against it
and having runtime failures (60% sure it was runtime failures vs
buildtime failure). It was more important to me to have a working
package at that point vs hunting down the cause, so I removed
local-gettext-0.18 and went back to fink-gettext-0.17.

The only other thing I can find in my experimental CVS logs was that
there was some incompatibility with how libintl_setlocale was being
defined. gnash didn't like it, but I patched around it following
Macports example of "#undef setlocale" for gnash (no idea if this has
been fixed in 0.18.1.1.)

So that's the extent of what I remember about gettext-0.18. Sorry I'm
not able to provide any more details.
