Greetings all,

Please bear with the following (lengthy) problem description.

I have been struggling all day to install control-center. Initially, I was
getting a 'invalid multibyte sequence' errors when fink got to

    .../msgfmt -o ja.po

Initially, I tried adding the following to po/Makefile.in.in ...

    for l in ja; do
      cp $l.po $l.po.tmp
      LANG=C OLD_PO_FILE_INPUT=yes msgmerge -v $l.po.tmp  control-center.pot
-o $l.po
    done

(see http://mail.gnome.org/archives/gnome-i18n/2001-August/msg00098.html)

Unfortunately, it didn't work. Ultimately, I just removed 'ja' from
$ALL_LINGUAS in both configure and configure.in and fink was able to get
past the invalid sequence.

However, then fink would throw an error that it couldn't find orbit.h. It
appeared to be where is was supposed to be so I ran dselect to make sure
that there wasn't a new version of orbit available.

Upon updating my package list, dselect told me that there was an update of
gnome-libs available (1.4.1.2-4). However, when I go to install, I get the
following error ...

    Reading Package Lists... Done
    Building Dependency Tree... Done
The following NEW packages will be installed:
      gnome-libs
0 packages upgraded, 1 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.

or errors caused by missing dependencies. This is OK, only the errors
above this message are important. Please fix them and run [I]nstall
    again
    Press enter to continue.

installation script returned error exit status 100.
    Press <enter> to continue.

I've tried removing everything associated with gnome-libs under /sw except
.info and .patch files and reinstalling from scratch. No luck.

Any ideas what happened? All of a sudden everything seems to have gone
kerflooey. Also, if you have any advice regarding my troubles getting
control-center compiled, that would be appreciated as well :-)

For reference, I am running Mac OS X 10.1.2 with the 12/01 dev tools and
fink 0.3.1.

Any help would be appreciated.

Gary
