Dave,

Finks's xdvi always tries to rerun mktexpk to build its font pk files,
even though they are already there. As a reason, I found that the lines
concerning xdvi that one has to put into texmf.cnf according to the xdvi
DescUsage, are not put there correctly by the Fink tetex-texmf package.

For example, instead of
      PKFONTS.XDvi    = .:$TEXMF/%s:$VARTEXFONTS/pk/{%m,modeless}//
I see
      PKFONTS.XDvi    = .:/%s:/pk/{%m,modeless}//
in /sw/texmf.cnf.

This comes from a line

echo "PKFONTS.XDvi    = .:$TEXMF/%s:$VARTEXFONTS/pk/{%m,modeless}//" >> texmf.cnf

in the tetex-texmf info file. One should probably use single quotes
instead of double quotes there.

Why is this file /sw/texmf.cnf there, anyway? It sticks out like a sore
thumb in the /sw/ directory and violates every fink and tetex file
system rule. It seems to be hardcoded in xdvi, however. If I move it to
/sw/share/texmf/web2c/texmf.cnf or to one of the clone texmf trees, it
is not seen by xdvi.
