gnome-vfs-dev and gnome-vfs-shlibs .debs seem to have been successfully created by running "fink install gnome-vfs-1.0.3-5" - thank you Alexander Hansen for all of the good advice.
HOWEVER, there's a different conflict - involving /sw/etc/gnome-vfs-mime-magic - which is listed at the end of this note. This could go on "forever" - and since I've used more than my share of bandwidth what I really need is some direction in my attempt to figure out what has gone wrong. I don't recall anyone else complaining about gnome-vfs, so there must be something that I have or have not done that has led me to this state. I wouldn't mind starting over (and re-installing many/most packages) if I could figure out how much to rip out. QUESTION: is there a way that I can examine my fink/apt installation to try to detect the kinds of problems I'm running into without having to wait for fink to build the packages and attempt to install them? ++++++++[ the latest gnome-vfs error ]+++++++++ "dpkg -i /sw/fink/dists/stable/main/binary-darwin- powerpc/gnome/gnome-vfs_1.0.3-5_darwin-powerpc.deb (Reading database ... 36683 files and directories currently installed.)
