Xnext is part of the XFree86 distribution, 'man Xnest'
should tell you all you need to know.

simple scenario:

1. startup XDarwin rootless and run a basic window manager
2. in an Xterm, run 'Xnest :1 -geometry <something equal
or less than current screen resolution>&'
3. you now have DISPLAY :1 in a rooted window you can
move around and manage
4. start a window manager for :1 and have fun.

The rest is left as an exercise to the reader...
