I'm not sure anti-aliasing is implemented in X11. Fonts are a
recurring pain for X11 and one of the reasons I bought a Mac.

It might be so that it has been fixed in later versions of XFree86 and
window managares then the one I played around with on my Debian
system. In fink, I use OroborOSX and haven't fooled around with these
issues.

But I think that you in the first place need a window manager that
supports it, i.e. use the correct API.

But don't take my word for it, it's a wild shot.
