i've been trying to use fink. i've heard lots of really good things. but
it's not being nice to me.
i've tried it a couple times in the past, and not really gotten into it.
trying again recently when i finally got XDarwin to work, i've finally
decided to ask for help.

i tried `fink install xchat`
after picking a couple of packages, i got returned this:
curl -f -L -s -S -O
http://www.sleepycat.com/update/3.3.11/db-3.3.11.tar.gz
curl: (22) The requested file was not found
### curl failed, exit code 22
Downloading the file "db-3.3.11.tar.gz" failed.

i checked http://www.sleepycat.com/update/3.3.11/, and by golly, there is
no db-3.3.11.tar.gz there.
so, just for giggles, i tried installing a few of the other packages it
said i needed. when i tried `fink install openssl`, i found it wanted
install openssl 0.9.6c, while i already had 0.9.6g binaries [though i'm
pretty sure osx leaves out some of the libraries applications look for
when installing].
when a friend of mine tried it, he got 0.9.6g-1. so i tried `fink
selfupdate`, and it claimed that i was already up to date. so i
downloaded and reinstalled fink. same results.

now i'm at a bit of a loss of what to do next. any ideas?
