OK, having been advised to try "fink install minicom" to get over my disappointment in not finding tip(1), I tried it. (This is Jaguar, ugpraded from 10.1; with Fink freshly installed from 0.0.4a binary installer.)
It failed with the following message: % fink install minicom sudo /sw/bin/fink install minicom Reading package info... Information about 428 packages read in 2 seconds. rm -rf minicom-2.00.0-2 mkdir -p /sw/src/minicom-2.00.0-2 tar -xzf /sw/src/minicom-2.00.0.src.tar.gz Failed: directory /sw/src/minicom-2.00.0-2/minicom-2.00.0 doesn't exist, check the package description Now, I had taken a few steps to get even this far: sudo mkdir /sw/fink/dists/local/main sudo mkdir /sw/fink/dists/local/main/finkinfo sudo mkdir /sw/fink/disks/local/main/finkinfo/net (Yes, I know about mkdir -p, but wanted to show what directories were not present before.) sudo cp /sw/fink/dists/unstable/main/finkinfo/net/minicom* \ /sw/fink/disks/local/main/finkinfo/net fink index (then, finally) fink install minicom (resulting in the error above) /sw/src contains this: [split:/sw/src] jxh% ls -la /sw/src total 968 drwxr-xr-x 4 root admin 136 Aug 29 14:09 ./ drwxr-xr-x 11 root admin 374 Aug 29 13:46 ../ drwxr-xr-x 3 root admin 102 Aug 29 14:09 minicom-2.00.0-2/ -rw-r--r-- 1 root admin 492693 Aug 29 13:52 minicom-2.00.0.src.tar.gz and /sw/src/minicom-2.00.0-2 contains this: [split:/sw/src/minicom-2.00.0-2] jxh% ls -l /sw/src/minicom-2.00.0-2/ total 0 drwxr--r-- 43 500 500 1462 May 20 13:14 minicom/ What? Mode 7_44_? And it's the wrong name, or anyway not what the Makefile is expecting. I can go hack on this, but I suspect there's something more basic that's wrong with my Fink installation. What's the answer? The archives didn't reveal it, at least to me. ------------------------------------------------------- This sf.net email is sponsored by:ThinkGeek Welcome to geek heaven. http://thinkgeek.com/sf _______________________________________________ Fink-users mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/fink-users
