Actually, you must have been asked a question about a dependency on a virtual package (x11), and you have answered to install xfree86-base to resolve it. This might have been the wrong answer. > You have an existing X11 installation in /usr/X11R6 and /etc/X11. Clear? You have installed Xfree86 from some other source, from xfree86.org or from XonX or somewhere else. The question is whether you want to keep this installation or replace it by fink's version. > This package refuses to overwrite these. Remove them, then tell Fink to > install xfree86-base again. Sounds rather clear to me, but I'll rephrase it: If you trust the version you installed yourself (i.e. you think it is complete and up-to-date and working correctly with the OS version you are running), then install system-xfree86 instead of xfree86-base and xfree86-rootless, or, when asked next time how to resolve the corresponding virtual dependency, choose system-xfree86. The other possibility, system-xtools, is probably not for you, because it concerns only those who installed the commercial Tenon xtools, and if you had spent money on this, you would probably know what you are doing and not ask these questions :-) If you want to replace your version by a fresh one (not too fresh actually, because you are getting the binary version from last April) from fink, then say (but be very careful not to make typos, this is the kind of commands that can destroy your whole system) sudo rm -rf /usr/X11R6/ /etc/X11/ /Applications/XDarwin.app/ Then repeat your last fink install command. If you had the package xaw3d installed before, you will need to reinstall it. -- Martin ------------------------------------------------------- This sf.net email is sponsored by: OSDN - Tired of that same old cell phone?
