Hello fink-users, develepors, maintainers et al,

So my dear little iBook had to be sent off for repairs(nothing to do with Fink),
and I'm left daydreaming about what I'll be doing when it returns.

One thing I've been wondering about is this: with the open source release of
Darwin 6.01(the version under OS 10.2/Jaguar) would it be possible to install
the newer Darwin(perhaps on it's own partition) on my OS 10.1.5 iBook and
be able to use it in conjunction with the Jaguar-ready Fink packages?

I realize that without the latest Dev Tools(which are not available for my
current OS) I may not be able to compile the source, but perhaps as things
develop and binary packages become available through dselect, maybe I
would be able to download the binary packages and move them over to the
Darwin 6 partition.

Or am I missing something? Am I tied to upgrading Mac OS in order to
upgrade Darwin and Fink packages? Is OS X a necessary ingredient?

Just wondering... thoughts anyone?

Being a bear of rather little brain, and still quite new to this whole UNIX /
Darwin / Mac OS X realm, I'm quite capable of thinking up the most idiotic
things. Please excuse if this was one of them. The whole question is
hypothetical and is solely meant to hasten the dissipation of your precious
weekend time : )

p.s. to the developers: Fink has not merely changed the way I use my
computer, Fink has changed the way I think. Thanks !

(whether this change has been an improvement is still subject to verification.
patents pending.)
