For me it builds. I had to setenv CPPFLAGS "-I/sw/include" before
starting scilab, otherwise it wouldn't find the imagemagick headers. I
don't know why scilab doesn't set this in its myriad of config files. It
sets the "-L" flags correctly, why not the "-I"?

Anyway, it built the libimgio stuff correctly, "file" says

libimgio.la: English text
libimgio.lo: Mach-O object ppc
libimgio.o: Mach-O object ppc
libimgio.so: Mach-O bundle ppc

and the libimgio.la file seems to contain reasonably-looking load
instructions for libimgio.so.

Afterwards, however, when exec'ing loader.sce, it fails saying

Sorry : Dynamic linking is not implemented

I don't know yet who is saying this and why.

The package maintainer comes to mind.

Not quite, the August update is quasi mandatory.

Wasn't this one of the bugs in Apple's gcc that was fixed in the August
update? Or in a recent libtool update? I don't remember.
