I normally don't login as root, but I always run fink as root.
You don't need to run fink as root. If you just type 'fink whatever' fink does decide autmatically if it needs to run as root. If yes it will ask for the root password. If not, it will run with your user name. This is generally better to do.

Mhmm... I looks like you don't have 'cvs' on your system. Very strange... What do the following commands output:

which cvs
cvs: Command not found.
You don't seem to have cvs installed...

fink list cvs
Reading package info...

Fink has detected that your package cache is out of date and needs an
update, but does not have privileges to modify it. Please re-run fink as
root, for example with a "fink index" command.

ll /usr/bin/cvs
/usr/bin/cvs --version
there isn't a file called cvc in that directory
Ok, it might be that cvs comes with the developer tools from MacOS X. Anybody knows?

Then you could also try to do 'fink install cvs'. Does this work?
It didn't work because I don't have the devtools installed, and cann't compile anything. I looked for the package with dselect but it isn't listed there. Do you know where I can get the binary version of the program?
I see now. If you want to test out packages in unstable, you need to install the MacOS developer tools. Of cause all fink developers would highly appreciate it if you would help us test the packages in unstable.

So, it is up to you: Either you have to wait until we get some positive feedback on analog 5.30 from somebody else and a new binary release is built, or, you install the developer tools from your CD and help us test some packages.

I think that is all we can do right now.

Thanks, Chris.
